Valle Peligna Green Hydrogen Project

The Valle Peligna project will be one of the first Green Hydrogen projects at scale and the largest in South Europe. It is developed by Infinite Green Energy Italia in partnership with AXPO Group and has support of the local government.

The project is located in central Italy, positioned centrally between East and West coast. There is an abundance of solar and wind resources in the area, with similar power production projects already operating. Site selected for the hydrogen production facility has existing infrastructure in place. The company has access options to the land parcels required for the proposed development.

Initially, 30MW of electrolysis will be installed, producing up to 12,500kg of gaseous green hydrogen per day. Electrolysers will be powered by a combination of renewable energy from solar (45MW) and wind (72MW). Intermittency of renewable power will be controlled with a 20MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and local power grid. Usage of grid power will be offset with Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs), generated by the installed solar and wind resources.

Green hydrogen produced will meet off takers needs in “Hard to Abate” Industry, Heavy Vehicles (trucks) and Mobility (cars, buses and trains). Production plant location has an excellent access to transport infrastructure permitting Italy-wide product distribution.

Valle Peligna project is expected to come online in the second half of 2027 and will displace up to 67,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
